Customer Service Supervisor

The primary responsibility of this job is to assume the overall supervision and control of all New Accounts Department personnel and to oversee the smooth and effective operations of the department. Incumbent provides instruction and training to personnel assigned to department; delegates and oversees daily work assignments; prepares schedules; maintains records and evaluates performance; reviews and verifies the various computer generated new account reports. Specific clerical duties include the supervision and maintenance of all departmental files and records.

The incumbent welcomes and interviews prospective depositors, explaining the various forms of accounts available to them. Opens new accounts and outlines the Bank's rules and regulations covering transactions; apprises depositors of the protection offered them through the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Cross-sells additional bank products and services to all new and existing depositors. Verifies the signature of depositors when checks are tendered for deposit and initiates the obtaining of signature verifications from other banks. Keeps records of incomplete, incorrect or outstanding signature cards and other records for follow-up purposes; accepts new signature cards authorizing withdrawals against accounts maintained in the names of organizations; completes drafts, takes fingerprints and approves payment (within limits) against accounts maintained by incapacitated persons. Keeps records required for statistical purposes. May be required to sell SBLI. May be required to become a licensed Notary Public. May be required to work weekends and/or extended hours and regular, reliable attendance is critical. May be required to work at neighboring branch locations.

Performs duties related to sales and branch operations.


  • Aggressively promotes new business by being aware of customers' needs and cross-selling additional bank products and services to all new and existing customers.

  • Establish, retain, and deepen relationships with customers and potential customers to achieve team sales goals and provide quality customer service.

  • Performs sales related duties (i.e., reports, meetings).

  • Motivates and monitors customer service representatives to ensure sales goals are met.

  • Delegates and supervises daily work assignments.

  • Ensures accuracy and completion of departmental work, files and records.

  • Provides proper training and counseling to departmental personnel to ensure a performance that will reflect a favorable image of the Bank.

  • Communicating, implementing and monitoring compliance with bank standards and procedures.

  • Promotes good customer relations when opening accounts by rendering prompt and efficient customer service.

  • Opens new accounts, at which time, the Banks' rules and regulations covering transactions and FDIC protection are fully explained in order to eliminate customer misunderstanding.

  • Protects the Bank against loss by verifying signatures of depositors presenting checks for initial deposit.

  • Places appropriate lockouts on new accounts requiring signature verification.

  • Arranges for internal transfer of accounts and collections from other banks.

  • Accepts and processes applications for direct deposit of government checks.

  • Maintains records of incomplete, incorrect or outstanding signatures, social security numbers and identification for follow up purposes.

  • Maintain courteous inter-departmental relations.

  • Maintains control of working supplies of passbooks, collection forms.

  • Reviews and verifies the various computer generated new account reports.

  • Familiarity with and adherence to the bank?s code of conduct.


  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

  • Good communication skills.

  • Courteous and friendly behavior.

  • Proficiency in managing the sales process.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all new account operations, which include the various types of accounts and services offered to the public and, related departmental work.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and deal effectively with staff assigned.

  • Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and effectively with customers and prospective depositors.

  • Thorough knowledge of Bank's rules and regulations governing accounts and services, acceptable instruments and verification of signature procedures.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer program as it relates to the establishment and renewal of accounts and entering and retrieving name, address and associated changes.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of interest calculations for use in dividend adjustments.

  • Demonstrated ability to type and compose standard letters.

  • Knowledge of Bank Hold-Up Procedures.

  • Licensed NYS Notary Public.

  • Certification to sell SBLI.

  • Must be able to work onSaturdaysand late on Fridays.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
